2010 AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Pet Food Experts, of Cumberland, RI, was named 2010 Ken Chancey Distributor of the Year. Additionally, WellPet, LLC, was named 2010 Supplier of the Year during PIDA's Annual Awards Banquet, January 29, 2010 at the Miramonte Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, California. Both companies were recognized as part of PIDA's Performance Benchmarking Awards.

Coastal Pet Products, Inc. of Alliance, OH was runner-up in the Supplier of the Year balloting. Phillips Feed & Pet Supply, of Easton, PA took runner-up honors in the Distributor of the Year category.

The Distributor of the Year award was renamed in 2010 to the Ken Chancey Distributor of the Year Award. Ken Chancey was president of PIDA from 1998-1999 and served on the board of directors for more than a decade. Ken was a spirited leader of the organization, always pushing the board to find ways to enhance manufacturer-distributor communications and to improve the health of the pet industry at large. The award name was changed to honor his memory.

The Awards program recognizes manufacturers and distributors for specific policies and practices that help drive cost from the distribution channel and which make the companies good channel partners. Companies are recognized in three categories of achievement:

Sales Support: This award recognizes the manufacturer whose sales staff consistently offers superior support to distributors in areas such as:

  • Frequency and effectiveness of sales calls
  • Sales "ride-alongs"
  • Training
  • Accessibility
  • Prompt follow-up on problems
  • Timely information regarding new products, changes and new packaging, and
  • Information on industry trends

Marketing & Promotions: This award recognizes the manufacturer who provides a high level of direct support to distributors' customers through:

  • Dealer promotions
  • Participation in Open Houses
  • Trade Advertising
  • Merchandising in store
  • POP/POS materials
  • Training
  • Merchandising aids, and
  • Returns policy

Logistics and Operations: This award recognizes the manufacturer who demonstrates exceptional customer service in the following areas:

  • On-time delivery of product
  • Fill rate
  • Packaging
  • Helpful Customer Support staff
  • Compliance with good shipping practices, and
  • Use of current technology

Winners in each of the three awards categories are listed below. In addition, PIDA recognized the manufacturers and distributors whose performance has improved the most since last year. PIDA congratulates each of these companies for their outstanding service.
