Following are several resources PIDA makes available to companies in the pet industry. Click on the title of the publication for ordering information.

Customer Satisfaction Survey Program
PIDA distributor members now have a new tool to increase your awareness of customer satisfaction with your service. We have partnered with Industry Insights, Inc., a professional firm that collects and analyses industry statistics, to develop a Customer Satisfaction Survey that will:

  • Measure your firm's performance in terms of customer service.
  • Benchmark your performance against other PIDA members across the country.
  • Show your customers that you are concerned with, and are striving to meet their needs.

In today's ever-changing and increasingly competitive pet products industry, it is more important than ever to measure and track how well you are servicing your retail customers. Developing and conducting a survey of this kind on your own could take weeks of your staff time and thousands of dollars in consultants' fees. Using the PIDA Customer Satisfaction Survey package is virtually effortless. As an added membership bonus, PIDA will pay one-half of the cost to conduct your survey.

Pricing is based on the number of surveys conducted. See complete pricing details on the attached Survey Package Order Form.

Click here for details on how to use the new PIDA Customer Satisfaction Survey. Find out today:

  • What your customers need.
  • How well you are meeting those needs.
  • How you stack up against other distributors in meeting retailers' needs.

Advanced Inside Sales Training
Take your sales personnel beyond the traditional "Customer Service" role with this CD-Rom Course. The program provides your sales staff with the tools they need to increase their selling effectiveness for your company while becoming a more assertive part of the distributors selling system. The CD-ROM program is available for $99 for PIDA members and $250 for non-members.

PIDA Membership Roster
The PIDA Membership Roster is available free of charge upon request. The roster contains contact information for all PIDA members.

PROFIT Survey
The PIDA PROFIT Survey helps member distributors benchmark their financial performance against industry averages. Participating firms receive an individual critique of their operation which lays out a specific plan for improving company financial results. The survey results are available for sale for $100 to PIDA members that did not participate in the survey and $295 for non-members.

Cross-Industry Compensation Survey
PIDA participates in a cross industry compensation survey that helps business owners establish a fair and adequate compensation system for employees. The survey draws data from more than 3,000 wholesale distribution firms in 25 commodity lines. Members that participate get a free copy of the survey. The cost to non-participating members is $100 and the cost to non-members is $295.

PIDA Members Can Now Participate in the 2010 Compensation Survey!
How Does Your Compensation Package Stack Up Against Other Distributors? Are your employees overpaid or underpaid? How about the management team? What benefits do other firms provide? Get the answers by participating in this PIDA- sponsored study

If you’re like most distribution firms, you’re running lean these days with just enough personnel to get by. Hiring and keeping good employees is essential to the profitability of your business, especially in today’s economy. To achieve that goal, you must consider your overall employee compensation plan—not just your pay scales, but your benefits program as well—in comparison to other firms in distribution.

Participating firms will receive a wealth of information covering topics such as:

  • Executive Compensation
  • Employee Compensation
  • Sales Commission Plans
  • Inside/Counter Sales Policies
  • Benefit Programs
  • Health Care
  • Retirement
  • Vacations & Time Off

The VALUE of this survey is threefold:

The results help you determine where your compensation plan stands not only within the industry but also compared to other companies in distribution. The data helps PIDA respond to legislative proposals regarding government-mandated health and leave benefits for employees. And the information helps companies that must prove their compensation is “reasonable” within the constraints of the Internal Revenue Code.

To guarantee complete confidentiality of your company’s data, all responses will be sent directly to and compiled by Profit Planning Group, an outside organization that specializes in survey research. Only the aggregate results of the survey will be released. To ensure a comprehensive report we need your participation. Members can also access an Excel spreadsheet version of the survey on the Profit Planning Group website at http://www.profitplanninggroup.com/pages/questpp.shtml, then select "PIDA" in the drop-down list.

Be sure to send in your completed survey by March 1, 2010.

Improving the Bottom Line

What Your Employees Don't Know About Profit Can Destroy Your Business
According to a recent article in Fortune, the majority of business managers don't understand the basics of profitability management. As a result, they are often taking actions that they think are helping the firm, but are actually reducing profits. PIDA has a solution to the financial understanding challenge. It is a new computer-based educational program called Improving the Bottom Line. It allows every employee to experience a multi-media financial training program.

Of greater importance, it is not a generic training program. Instead, it allows every firm to train its managers using the company's own financial results. In fact, every branch or division manager can have a program tailored to the results of the individual division.

With this program every manager can take advantage of financial training at their own pace-fast, slow or in between. In addition, managers can train at home, at work or on the road. They can also train for as long as they want, for three minutes to three hours, depending upon their schedule. In short, every firm will have a program tailored to its own unique needs.

Improving the Bottom Line has three modules, each about three hours in length. They are designed to help every manager gain a better understanding of critical financial issues.

"The Power of D"
Click here to order your Power of D, Growth Through Distribution brochures.

PIDA recently introduced a new marketing program for members under the theme, The Power of D, Growth Through Distribution. It is intended to help distributors explain to their trading partners the value that they bring to the distribution channel.

PIDA Distributor members can order complimentary copies of these brochures. Each set contains the four Power of D brochures and envelopes. You are encouraged to use some or all of the brochures when communicating with your suppliers or customers. One or more of the brochures may be more appropriate than the others for particular trading partners. You decide.

Here are some ideas on ways you can use these materials:

Give a copy to existing suppliers when discussing your business relationship to help them understand the value you bring to the relationship. The Value and Promotion brochures are particularly helpful in this regard.

Help your suppliers understand what they can do to assist you in being more efficient with the tips in the Service brochure.

New vendors who are looking for distribution need the Product brochure to help them understand what they can do to make their products attractive to distributors.

Use the brochures when visiting your key retail accounts. The Value brochure can help you in promoting more of your services to customers.

You will discover new and innovative ways to use these materials as time goes by. Give them a try and see if they make a difference in your business relationships...
