Pet Store Pro Takes Retail Training to the Next Level

New features enhance accessibility and ease of use

Abingdon, Md. — January 16, 2014 — Pet store owners who have trouble finding time to teach their team the critical skills for success should visit (or revisit) Pet Store Pro (www.petstorepro.com), the free online training program for independent pet retailers. The redesigned site’s streamlined features make Pet Store Pro an even more convenient and time-efficient way to provide everyone who works for you with consistent, reliable training.

First launched by the Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA) in 2008, Pet Store Pro now offers 25 custom courses developed by pet experts to teach associate- and management-level skills. New this year, each chapter has been reorganized into self-contained sections by specific topics that should take about one hour of study to complete. Chapter tests have also been divided by content to make it easier to assess what students have learned. Training managers can customize curriculum by assigning an entire chapter or only the sections that apply to their business.

Pet Store Pro will introduce two new courses this year to teach new hires retail fundamentals. Each one is designed for students to complete in approximately 30 minutes. Retail 101 teaches first-day survival skills, and focuses on attitude, appearance and what customers expect when they walk into a retail pet store. Retail 201 helps associates understand their influence on the success of your business. Topics include customer service on the sales floor and on the phone, as well as how associates’ responsibilities influence your store’s profits.

Now adapted to perform on PCs, iPads and other tablets, Pet Store Pro is ready to study, manage or take for a test drive anytime, anywhere. Students can study independently at home, at the store during downtime — even on the bus to school or work. Training managers can assign courses, set deadlines, check progress and send reminders whenever and wherever it’s convenient. A new dashboard makes it easy to monitor performance at the employee and store level at a glance, while the redesigned site is easier to navigate.

“PIDA’s investment in Pet Store Pro is driven by user feedback,” said PIDA president Steve King. “In a recent user survey, 93 percent of owner/managers said they would recommend the program to others, and almost two-thirds rated the program as eight or better on a scale of one to ten.”

Since its launch in February 2008, more than 16,000 pet store owners, managers and sales associates from approximately 4,000 stores have used Pet Store Pro.
